New Jersey hospitals recorded their worst financial performance of the decade last year, a new report said.
The $18 billion-a-year industry barely broke even, with 23 of 54 hospitals and hospital systems showing operating losses, according to the New Jersey Hospital Association’s annual report, “Financial Status of New Jersey Hospitals,” issued Wednesday. (more…)

Englewood Hospital and Medical Center’s admissions surged by 2,000 and the hospital turned a profit after a string of losses, as Pascack Valley Hospital sank into bankruptcy and closed.
But the gains were short-lived. Admissions are declining again and the hospital recently laid off employees.
“This only strengthens the argument” that Pascack Valley should not reopen, said Michael Pietrowicz, Englewood’s senior vice president of planning. (more…)

Bergen County Executive Dennis McNerney wants to build some consensus. He wants the two hospitals that are opposed to the reopening of Pascack Valley Hospital to sit down with the hospital that wants to reopen it, so the opponents can be persuaded to sign on to the plan. (more…)
