The Valley Hospital and Englewood Hospital and Medical Center: Statement about Hackensack University Medical Center’s withdrawl of appeal against DHSS

Hackensack’s decision to withdraw its appeal against the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS) substantiates our position, and that of the State of New Jersey, that HUMC’s claim was wholly without merit.  .

HUMC continues to utilize every political maneuver at its disposal to reopen an unneeded hospital in Bergen County; it must now realize the Courts are not swayed by political favoritism, but rather rely on the law when rendering decisions.

On behalf of our patients and the region, we will continue to fight for a healthy, balanced hospital system in Bergen County.

Pallone: Institutions can’t repay a $100M mistake by Medicare

“The bottom line is, they can’t afford it,” said Rep. Frank Pallone Jr. (D-Long Branch).

The dispute has dragged on for years, and hospitals are concerned they will lose their drawn-out fight with Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, and be forced to pay millions of dollars they can ill afford to part with. The hospitals may well have cause for alarm: CMS already has forced them to repay $53 million. (more…)

State hears call for new hospital

Supporters of a new hospital in Westwood at the site of the old Pascack Valley Hospital scored a victory last week when the State Health Commissioner accepted a petition from Hackensack University Medical Center for a new certificate of need call. The decision will give HUMC a new road to take in its effort to reopen the site as a fully functional hospital. (more…)

The fight for a fully functioning acute care hospital in Westwood moved forward Friday when the state Department of Health and Senior Services approved a petition that Hackensack University Medical Center (HUMC) filed in December asking that a new hospital be considered, which elicited condemnation from Valley Hospital in Ridgewood.
