Hackensack's plan puts profits before patients in Bergen County. It hurts existing Bergen County hospitals like The Valley Hospital and Englewood Hospital and Medical Center by adding unneeded hospital beds to the region. And it goes directly against the findings of Governor Corzine's own Commission on Rationalizing Health Care Resources. The message we need to send is simple: Keep Our Hospitals Healthy. "YES" to a satellite Emergency Department for Pascack Valley — but "NO" to plans by Hackensack University Medical Center to build a new 128-bed for-profit inpatient hospital funded by a private equity fund.
